I believe we were more open to viewing different solutions to problems, not only in math, but other situations, as well. We also had to learn our multiplication table by heart. I truly believe that made a world of difference in understanding math. How is there any other way to do the first one? The first one you have to find the lowest common multiple which is what they used. Ain’t no shortcut, is the normal way. I learned all of these. But I’m more concerned with what drawing a bee, cat, owl and dog have to do with math. When I was doing this back in the late sixties they sure put a stop to it cuz it wasn’t their way.

Math was hard for me so Come to the math side we have pi shirt but when I showed them how I did that was not the proper way. So then I struggled through my school years. As long as I was getting the answer they should have been satisfied. Some people need to broaden their Horizon. Listen to the children there smarter than you think. First trick doesn’t work when denominators have a common factor. You have to reduce d answer for that which is not taught.students gets confused! One must teach these maths tricks for cross-verifying their problems and for competitive exams as there will be less time for them to solve. At early stage if you teach these the students will not even learn tables up to fifteen also. Interesting. Never been taught that way on math. If they had I have gotten a better grade then.
